Problem is that having lost the computer set up skills. I have lost it and I expected my son in law to be setting it up for me. Unfortunately he has a problem with his eyes again and he is on a cocktail of drugs that has affected him greatly so I am trying to set the thing up on my own.
Having used XP before and never used 7- it is a bit different but not drastically. It's just a computer and as a user- I can work my way into 7. In fact from what I can see- I like it. BUT the router needs setting up. It did not work and it needs a password that I do not know. (SiL set it up originally) Got it working but it is not set up properly yet. Set up the internet so I can post here but no- E-mail yet and I don't know how to set it up. Then a couple of my games will not Run as I am missing a programme that I can't find but now I am on the internet I can find them. Will find the other problems as I continue to swear for the rest of the day.
OH--And it is raining again. Garden is flooded so I will have to forgo the ride today. Too much to do in the garden right now and this bl**dy computer to sort out. Just as well as it looks like we have the GC's today to give mum a rest and able to look after her poorly hubby.
Some email programs will set themselves up, Thunderbird does, the router password is often on the unit itself. When you set up a new computer it takes about a week to get it usable, and another couple of months to get it to where your really happy with it. Similar to bike fit, you can get close after a few rides, but it takes time to get it really dialed in.
What always drives me nuts, is where from one version to another, they change stuff that works perfectly well, but there are bugs that have been around for many versions, that they never seem capable of squashing....
