When to repair chainstay rub and when to ignore**********

Chainstay gouge, when do you get it repaired and when do you just ride it???

I have to believe others here have run into this. This is posted in C&V also.

Tearing down an English Falcon roadbike that I plan on blasting the frame at work this week.
Problem is that the cottered crank must have been loose at some point and allowed the inner chain wheel contact the chain stay. The gouge is approx. 20 thou. deep. And it is about 3/16" wide and about 1/4" tall.

Frame has been rattlecanned so no clue as to what frame is constructed with. Could be plain carbon or Reynolds. Components are lower end so prob. pretty plain jane.

So, question is, does this need repair or just ignore and enjoy?
