Not related to your question, but important to your commute:

If you are wearing out your rear pads before your fronts, you might want to refine your breaking technique.

You will defiantly have more breaking power (and be less likely to have your rear end break loose and come around) if you move your braking bias to the front. I'm sure others will chime in.
