Nah, you ain't gonna get flamed here.

I am open to all suggestions. Not only that, any suggestion I take as trying to help me, flaming back is out of the question.
No, I am not going to take the grass for that 1/2 mile section.. This is what I have done a couple times. Just as I am getting ready to turn on to that 1/2 mile section if a car is in front of me, and I can get to them before they turn, I signal them to roll down the window, and asked them could they ride in back of me for that half mile. Out of the 7 or 8 times I asked this question, I got 6 that did it for me.. Also, when the wife leaves at that same times as I do, I get her to do the shotgun ride. Also, I am finding out when I do get into the lane, I zig zag a little to get the car in back of me attention, then I wave my hand in a as to tell them to slow down in back of me.. After I reach the light, where the lane opens up, I wave them to come on by as I go to the other lane. I also wave a thank you too.
I am working on getting the county to put up signs stating to be aware of bikes on the road...
Thanks for the feed back, much appreciated...

But that 1/2 mile stretch sounds hellish -- I would try to find an alternative.

You are correct on the point that it is "hellish"..

There is no alternative. Any other route I take, would not only be longer but I will have to travel and even more hazardous road. I am on to the multiple tail lights. I have reflective yellow saftey vest, blinking rear light, blinking light in my on my foot, and two blinking lights on the side of my backpack..
This half mile never fails to get a rush out of me, and a big, big sign of relief when I finish it. No, I am not relishing the danger, but it is a thrill to get by it...

I am already on to PB..

The expensive stuff will have to wait for a while, and looking at that PB stuff, and reviews and the prices. I gave it a go. I just got through mounting a PB Blaze 2 watt up front, and PB blinker in the rear. I have a PB beamer coming that will go on my helmet. Also, I carry some lights on my leg and back pack. Going to add a couple more of PB stuff to the rear too.
Thanks for that info..
