I really like your idea about asking a car to follow behind you for that section of the road. That seems like the safest possible way to go. I bet you could end up making a friend from this eventually. I think you're smart enough to do something nice for a driver if they start doing it more than once. Maybe a coffee handed through the window or something along those lines. Even if someone declines to take a coffee or a donut, they will like that you mentioned it. Co-operation with drivers, is almost unheard of around here. Just think about how it might work out if you find a cyclist that is driving to work at the same time every day!!
I have never read about, or heard about, this idea before anywhere. And most of what I read, listen to, and talk about, is bike related.

I have offered to do this for cyclists when I am drivng, but never thought of asking for this. Some of the cyclists don't understand my offer. But a couple have.
A couple of my friends draft my car once in a while.
That idea came about when the cars were screaming down Lyons Mills, and my pucker was telling me "don't do this"...

Then with car up in front of me, I just motioned to him and asked would he ride in back. It is only for half mile to I get to Ownings Mills Blvd. There the lane opens up to two lanes and a center lane.
If something comes up tomorrow I will do the same thing. Also, you know the signs that real estate people put out of the side of the road pointing to their developments. Well, I am thinking about rigging some elcheapo signs on the same order with SHARE THE ROAD, AND A BICYCLE SIGN.
One last thing, I have have some scaring moments, freefalling from 3 miles up skydiving, had about 3 or 4 100mph+ crashes on the race track, but when I go down that half mile on Lyon Mill, I do say to myself, "don't lose it here Coleman"...
