...Or, you just invited somebody to an event that they never would have heard about anyways. Another way to describe that strategy is withholding judgement, or assuming that they aren't a poser. If they aren't a poser, you area nice person who is interested. If they are, you were just a mistaken nice person. No malicious intent necessary.
