The sprocket side crank broke this morning on my Trek 850. I ended up in the middle of a busy Boston intersection. International Bike in Allston said they will take care of the warranty claim. I ruined a pair of gloves, have scraped hands and bruises. It could have been much worse. I wish I would have known about this issue before. I am thankful for this thread.
