When I'm "challenged" by a motorist, I totally ignore them. That probably bugs them more than responding. It wasn't easy at first, but after you do this a few times, it becomes easier. My suggestion to you all is to just put your head down and ride on; that is, of course if you escape unscathed.
Not in my experience; usually, ignoring them gives them a sense of 'bravery', because they feel they've intimidated you into passivity.
The ONLY time I've had a motorist throw things at me from his car was a situation like this. I tried just riding on, and HE FOLLOWED ME, cursing and challenging as he hurtled his trash my way.
Passivity will get you attacked, in my experience -- that's how I got jumped once, too.
It's simple; I WILL defend myself verbally, and if you escalate, well...your bucket list better be checked off, 'cause you're done with it.
