Real simple:

1) I make suggestion, something I've been doing for a while. Completely relevant to the discussion.
2) Someone essentially calls me a liar and says my suggestion is stupid and won't work.
3) I am taken aback because I know it works because I've been doing it for a while. So I tell him.
4) Calls me a liar again and tells me he's really smart and a chemist.
5) I tell him that I'm confused why he doesn't believe me.

I'm not saying I'm right or that he started or anything. I'm just trying to convince someone that my idea works since I know it does. He thinks his poor understanding of WD40 is enough to prove me wrong.

But you're right. At this point the question's been answered and we're just being childish.
