A learned this from my wife. First, moisten the hands with Johnson's Baby Oil. Allow it ten minutes to soak into the crevaces and cracks. Then wipe the hands off on some other dry area (knees, elbows, whatever) to get the excess off.

Follow this with your favorite hand cream (Vaseline Extensive Care works fine) and really work it in. Do this at bedtime or after showering, and your hands will soften up and the dry skin will be gone. I do this every other day during the winter. Helps to keep chapping to a minimum.
