How long does it take to prepare for 1/2 IM?

Hey you long-distance folks...

What would you say is the ideal length of time required to prepare for a 1/2 IM?

I just did my first sprint last weekend and I have to say I don't have much interest in doing it again. I'm interested in doing something different. I'm looking at the summer/fall ahead and I've made a list of potential events (Tour de Poway (the metric century), Gatorman, Muddy Buddy, Oceanside Pier Swim, and an Olympic Tri). There is also a 1/2 IM in La Jolla on October 30th. It's the Challenged Athletes Foundation Tri. Is preparing for something like that in 3 months even in the realm of possibility?

I'm assuming that many of you have enough background on me to know where I'm coming from fitness-wise... if not, let me know.

Thanks for the input - I'm just wondering if I should even consider it, or write it off til next year.
