Either way, WD-40 fits in my toolbox, the air compressor doesn't and in 17 years it has never done me wrong. I've never recommended it as a long term lubricant to replace grease or Tri-Flow.
Air compressor? Definitely a better way - if available.
Hairspray? As long as it is the right brand, some really gum things up and completely ruin grips.

It's just that I see so many people who are confused about what it's used for, made out of, etc. Putting on grips? Sure. I'll buy that one. No harm in that. Packing your hubs with it? Not so good.
