^ I have the VO switchable dynamo hub. It works as advertised. IRD is selling the same hub with their logo, but for more than the VO version. I also use a Shimano 3N-80 on another bike. Modern LED headlights are really great.

The way the original post was phrased makes it sound like moving to a battery powered system is an upgrade. I strongly disagree. Modern hub dynamos and LEDs are best, but modern bottle dynamos are improvements over vintage ones as well. I hope the extent of my battery powered lights remains to be just a couple of blinkies because I think batteries suck.





My Taylor tandem has a vintage bottle dynamo that I may or may not use.
