It's an early 80s lower end Miyata as you've surmised. And the 105 gear is from circa 88-89. For a first purchase, you didn't do bad, at least it has better drivetrain. It'll clean up and ride fine.
Most important is a bike that fits you, or you won't enjoy riding it. The 105 is good and reliable stuff.
