This kind of thing pisses me off to no end. Like jimmytango, I grew up on the exact opposite side of the coin and my parents have literally never bought me or helped pay for a single thing - not because they didn't want to but because we didn't have a lot of extra money. I feel it instilled a much stronger set of values in me that most people grow up with.

I'm pretty similar; I pay for everything but the bare essentials. By the time I make it through college and get a job I'll be all set to live on my own. My parents aren't going to pay my bills and buy food for me when I'm 30.
