Sorry to hear about your Grandma. I hope all is okay. And I know this is late...but if the chance comes up again, you may want to look at Borrego Springs in the desert in San Diego County (at least when it's not too hot). We were there over Christmas, stayed at Borrego Valley Inn (very pricey, but there are other cheaper alternatives). The cycling is generally flat with awesome scenery. But you can do Yaqui Pass (1220 foot climb in about four miles) or Montezume grade (3000 foot climb in 12 miles) if you like to climb. Also, the skies are just awesome, litterally thousands of stars. Also Anza Borrego State Park is there if you like to hike.
