This happened to me several times (twice today), which often gave me a close call.

Today as I was riding on a major traffic street, on the right-most lane, which was a bus lane, a taxi on the lane to my left passed me, then switched to my lane, then came to a stop! Perhaps to drop passengers? I don't know, but it wasn't even near an intersection, simply in the middle of the block. This forced me to change to the left lane immediately. Thank the Lord no car was coming close from behind on the left lane, but if there was one--and if it was a fast-moving heavy truck, I'd probably not be writing this now.

If I didn't change lane but just stop when that taxi stopped, it's also dangerous, because some car maybe directly following me behind.
