Stupid chain pin question

I searched, and found lots of threads that explain how to remove a chain by pressing out a pin, but I'm still curious about something. My chain has links with pins that look like the head of a rivet. There are dimples in the middle of the pin. One of the links has one pin that's solid. I can press out the solid pin to remove the chain, works fine, but I want to know if it's okay to remove ANY of the pins on the chan. Are the dimpled pins permanent or somehow different than the solid one?

Thanks for the advice!
