Radial lacing reduces NDS tensions.. albeit in a minor amount vs 3x... so say the spoke calc programs that deal with tensions.

3x all around is hard to beat.. but considering options is an interesting learning experience. I'll try a few.. mostly just to do it.
no, it doesn't work that way.
It's all about closing the flange width. With radial, or even 1x, you can get all the spokes to have their heads face outwards. When the spoke "heads are out", you reduce the width by about 2~3mm. Conversely, if all heads are in, you gain about 2~3mm.
