I started riding again in July of 2011...first time since I was a kid. Since then I have:
1. Ditched my brand new hybrid after 2 months for a brand new road bike (wife wouldn't ride trails with me so I became a roadie) at another $900 in cost and told the aforementioned wife, when asked, that it wasn't a new bike, I simply "bent the bars cause they're easier for road use" (she knows...the demon! she knows...)
2. Spent entirely too much money on clothing and accessories. Do I need 4 pairs of gloves and 2 helmets and 3 pair of shoes? NO. Did I buy them? yes.
3. Cut gluten out of my diet not for nutritional and health reasons, or even an allergy... but because thats what I read one of the pro teams did and dammit, that's good enough for me.
4. Didn't test drive the first bike I bought back in July (hybrid) because I was embarrassed that I would fall over, damage it, and they'd laugh and snicker and make me buy it.
5. When I get to a puddle I slow down to a crawl and gingerly go through it, because I don't want to get my cassette or BB wet and dirty, but when asked if I ride in the rain and slop I say "Hell yes, it's just water, for pete's sake"!!!
6. I wish I had started riding again 20 years ago.
