Bikes: Trek Speed Concept 9.9, 2011 Calfee Tetra Tandem

Dura ace 7803 derailleur availability

When I built our Calfee Tetra back in May (2011) I equipped it with Dura Ace front and rear derailleurs (7803 series because it is equipped with a triple crankset).

I found them on eBay and managed to get them for a fair price.

Since we plan to keep this bike for an extended period of time I thought that I would check and see if they were still available on eBay at decent prices and see if there were any other options.

According to Shimano North America you can buy a standard 7800 rear dérailleur and remove the short cage and install the long gage. He also said that the Ultegra also shifts extremely well. They also have around 50 new 7803 RD in stock.

I ended up finding a front and rear dérailleur in eBay and bought them. Hopefully a spare front and a spare rear will last us a long time. Who knows what will be available in 10 years. I am not ready for electric shifting, too complicated I think.
