The speed difference is likely not perceptable. However, wheels that are 1.4lbs lighter will make the bike feel faster and more responsive. I'm aware of the numbers about how little actual difference it makes in the effort to spin up to speed, but light wheels definitely improve the subjective feel of a bike.

Also, its always nice to have a back up set of wheels even f you don't race. So money spent on upgrading wheels is one of the more cost effective upgrade because you still get value out of the part your taking off.
