Wash them regularly, not just after months and months of use.
I've owned a pair of Specialized gloves for nearly six years now. They're worn regularly in the spring, autumn and winter. They're also washed regularly. They don't smell.
Regular washing is the prevention you seek.
Just like regularly washing yourself keeps you from smelling like a homeless person.
