I generally prefer bar end shifters over STI, because I can never seem to keep the STI indexing in working operation. However, the Microshift bar ends shifters don't have a friction back up, so it's kind of a wash for me.

I've been moving away from triples to double or single rings up front, for the simplicity. But, I live in flat Central Ohio.
