Yep. As a general rule, the more intense workouts I do per week, the less I eat. It takes awhile after a really hard ride before eating is a real consideration, and long easier rides tend to not create any increase in appetite. So, the more I ride, the less I weigh, bearing in mind I fluctuate only a 1-3 pounds. IMO, intensity is the key. If your riding isn't taking weight off, and you are above your ideal weight, then ride harder and longer. And if you are riding to really ride, as opposed to what folks here call "smelling the roses", then you will eat to fuel that riding, and your eating habits will support your weight goals. I realize not everyone wants to ride for 10-12 hours per week, and not everyone wants to push their personal performance thresholds. But I'm saying that if you do, it can get you to your weight and fitness goals. For me, it was a decision; simple to make, but complex in its implementation, and implementing it required sacrificing other things. My wife will say that what I'm doing is not about fitness. I say fitness is a big part, but it goes beyond that. It started as fitness, then became a passion, and a commitment to live a long, healthy and fulfilling life. I'm now trying to use the determination I've applied to cycling in other areas of my life, like home projects.

Our sport is a truly wonderful activity, and one that can have positive benefits in many aspects of our lives. It most certainly is a very useful tool in combatting obesity.

And yes, we Arizonans are doing our part for this thread. Maybe because we have a sheriff who is both... Wups, almost got political.
