I knew there was a dog at the location that had chased me before and I heard him barking behind the bushes as I approached (but I couldn't see him). I could have stopped, turned around, gotten a big stick, etc. Once I decided to outrun him, my fate was sealed.

I went by his house to avoid an even more aggressive dog on a parallel road.
