It's all about modulation; predictable, controllable, slowing down without guessing how lever effort will affect the eventual outcome. Match the brake pad, rotor size, and lever travel to your use, and be rewarded.

V brakes are OK, I don't care for the vagueness in the first .75 inch of lever travel and occasional centering adjustments though.
