Currently using 98A SPD cleats that came with one of several pairs of Nashbar/Performance pedals. (Wellgo?) Similar-looking cleats on another pair of shoes are VP 101. (Victor Pedals)
SPD mountain-style pedals - whether Shimano or generic - are not all exactly the same. Nor are the various cleats that are available. Interchangeability is common but not guaranteed.

From the Wellgo website, specs for a pair of Road pedals: 98A or Shimano 51 Compatible.
Some 'road' pedals could be described as 'mountain style'.
