24F, frosty. Yesterday I found my preferred route was not usable due to treefalls, today I found my shortest-straightest route has the same problem. Monday I will be able to cobble together a route that has the length of the one and the traffic volume of the other, kind of the worst of both worlds, except I won't need to carry my bike or wade through frozen mud.

Yesterday was also my 7 yr old's 1st day on the bike in almost 2 wks. She completely forgot about her handbrakes (new to her in the last month or so) and shot into an intersection at a 4-way stop (from the sidewalk) and T-boned a car that was waiting at the stop sign. No harm, no foul, whew. We did braking practice in the bus loop when I picked her up after school.

And finally, somebody (maybe the same person who stole the flashlights off my kids' handlebars during the school day a couple wks ago?) stole the tail blinky off my 10 yr old's bike. My daughter's bike looked like its tail light had been grabbed, but it was still there. Will see this afternoon, I guess, if it's still there today. Did not replace my son's light, he's mostly commuting in daylight anyway.

For the headlights (my daughter needs one I don't pick her up until well after sunset), I put other flashlights onto their helmets, that come into the school with them, using those 2fish lockblock thingies.
