you wont go wrong with the giant, but if I were you i'd build up a surly LHT with some nice black 105 components.

i have a crosscheck that does double duty, road and commute (sees lots of miles) and i really am so happy with my bike! surly makes a nice frame that is not too nice to use and abuse a little while commuting.
