I worked for a Schwinn dealer at the time, and remember those requiring a 27.
4mm seatpost, does this one use 27.4? The build kits at the time came with American Classic 27.4's if I recall correctly, I know they exist.
Also, as you may be aware, that model of FD was made with two cable routings (over the bolt or under it), so if the indexing doesn't jive, try the alternate routing.
I have a 27.2mm post in this one and it seems to be correct. I was not aware of that regarding the FD. Thanks!
