Which wheels / tyres ?
Readers recently kindly identified a COPPI bicycle which I have almost completely rebuilt. The components are mainly Campagnolo G.S. / Nuovo Record, probably from the 1978 period.
The wheels which were with the bicycle have Mavic G40 700 rims [13mm internal width] with rotten clincher tyres which I believe to be 20mm. The tyre width is 5 0mmwhen opened flat. The hubs are Campagnolo Record, the rear with an 8 speed cassette. Should I replace 20mm tyres with similar ? What would be appropriate for general road use, not racing !
Or, should I fit a pair of rebuilt Ambrosio Super Champion [competition] wheels also with Campagnolo Record hubs and 6 speed cassette. Both wheels have new Vittoria Corsa EVO CX tubular tyres. These presumably would be more in keeping with the late 1970's but the tyres are probably not as durable / convenient as clincher types ?
Any views would be greatly appreciated, as I can't decide which option is the more appropriate ?
Thank you.
