While I have not analyzed it in any technical terms and have no experience with 10-speed, I presume that generally there is a potential for using a 10-sp RD on a 9-sp system. Pertaining to your original post, when working on that SRAM cage, I was shocked to find out that they were using there an SAE thread there - people around the world would need to be thrilled running into the issue.

As to your preferences, it is about the same here: gripshifts and RD are the only SRAM components.

P.S. Have to correct, I am happily using Avid brakes and levers and Avid seems to have been incorporated by Sram.
