Metric is clearly better and it's too bad the US didn't gradually shift to metric while the progressives still ran the government. However, with the current state of American politics, it will happen no time soon if ever. As soon as someone proposed switching to metric, no matter how gradual, all of the conservative talk-shows would have a hay day and it would become the latest hot button issue for them to fulminate about. Politicians would jump all over it and accuse the liberals of trying to force everyone to surrender to the monkey kms.
