Bikes: I tour on a Waterford Adventurecycle. It is a fabulous touring bike.

When I rode through France (journal here), I used the British AAA map book of France. I think it was 3 miles to the inch and showed all of the paved roads in the country. I cut out the sheets I intended to use and left the others at home.

It is of little to no use in cities and larger towns as it doesn't show any detail in them. It wasn't much of a problem as I avoided larger towns. Also, once in the towns, I could get local maps/info at the Tourist Info centers.
