Bikes: '04 Specialized Stumpy FSR Pro (Frame and Shock Only)

SRAM X-Gen Front Derailleur & The Stumpy FSR

Just a quick heads up everyone: the SRAM front derailleur will not work with the Stumpy frame. The der. is a "high clamp" type, which means that the part that clamps onto your frame sits about 1/2 inch above the top of the chain guide. Since the Stumpy seat tube is forged into a taper before it becomes round, there is absolutely no way to mount this little piece of hardware.

A "low clamp" version (clamp would be approximately parallel with the chain guide) is needed for the Stumpy.

I called SRAM and they said that one was in the works but that they are not currently producing one (the guy also tried to sell me a full X.0 system but I said "no thanks" for now ) so hope remains for those of us who'd like to give something other than Shimano a try (this doesn't mean I don't like Shimano, it just means that I like competition and believe competition breeds innovation which is better for all of us).
