With three projects (Campy Rally cages project, and these two builds)on my plate I've been a little busy not to mention going to school full time.I've sold two of my bikes just recently(73 Raleigh Comp and a pretty much brand new Salsa Vaya)in my stable and had to fill their spaces. I've been trying to build up collection with some good quality stuff and not just quantity. I want a nice classic Italian lugged bike so I got Ciocc. I always wanted a Colnago and so I've got my Mix, I wanted a custom built frame so I've got my frame I built in my framebuilding course. Now the next two are what I'm working on now to pretty much put the wraps on bikes for me. Mind you their not exactly classic or vintage but this is pretty much the only section of the forum I post on so bear with me.
First is something I've wanted for the longest time but kept on pushing it back. I used to race XC a few years ago and then just once last year. The bikes I had were never anything great or good in that matter. So I'm not much for suspension and all that jive. I found a nice older 16'' Airborne titanium frame and built it up with a mix of vintage and modern components. The wheels are old Nuke Proof from probably the mid/early 90's that I bought from a member here. The Sram 2x10 X9 group is brand new with X0 cranks. The full carbon fork is from Omni and then a Chris King headset. It's not stupid light as it tips the scales at 22 lbs but I'm happy with it and is exactly what I wanted in a MTB. I just need to cut the steerer tube and it's ready to get dirty.
Next is a Guerciotti Atos cyclocross bike. This is pretty much done beside ordering the wrong bottom bracket. Dang this thing is tall! It's got a 49cm seat tube and 51.75 top tube and I'm tipping toeing over the top tube with it's monster truck like stance with it's high bottom bracket height. The saddle/seatpost is from my Colnago as I forgot my Thomson seatpost at school so it's just for mockup. The bars also will not see the light of day as I just needed them to be able to get my cable setup and cut to length. It's running a 2x8 mixture of XTR derailleurs and Sach/Campy brifters. This feels like just a little under 20lbs but nothing on the bike is very weight weenie'ish.
After these two bikes are done no more bikes for me period. It's hard to say but I don't have any other bikes that I want. I don't see getting rid of any of them as they each have their own purpose now. It's like taking a big breath of fresh air. Aaaaahhhh...
Any other folks have all that they want and content with what they have? Or is everyone still search for that one certain bike and their collection or stable never complete until that have that one bike?
