Like most other disciplines of biking(or anything) sprinting needs to be practiced to be mastered.
I suggest interval training twice a week, which is what I'm doing now to build stamina and brute power.
My tuesday & thursday morning rides consist of interval training. Tuesday, flats and constant sprints and recovery, thursday is hill repeat day, up and down the same or different hills constantly........
