This sounds pretty close to what I do. I don't know if you're younger than I am (I'm 38), which would make a difference. If you want to get scientific about it, you can read about setting up different HR zones for training on specific days. I just have one zone set up and I have my monitor alarm if I go outside 127-155. The damn thing beeps all the time on the high side, but it lets me know that I need to think about taking it a little easier or eventually I will blow myself out and my average goes to hell.
