Congrats on the bike! I'd suggest that if you've never dealt with derailleurs before, to take it to a shop and have them adjust it for you. When I tried to fix even just a tiny chain rub on my front derailleur, I screwed up the whole thing and had to get the cable and housing replaced (about $10). But hey maybe you're a little more mechanically inclined than I am.
