I like riding hard occasionally. It's only a little bit of a shame that I can't keep up with one group I'd like to ride with, whether it's because of my equipment or my level of fitness. It's not important enough for me to spend that kind of money. I will get a modern bike one day. I think. But I'm not sure. Now's not the time. I have all the fun I can have currently with my old stuff. I usually ride at a moderate enough pace that I take in my surroundings. Occasionally, I ride hard, and that's fun, too.
