How many of those sales are not because the customer is/was happy with the bike but needed to replace it a year later, because it fell apart or otherwise became unrideable?

Again, realistically how many people do think who after having purchased a bike from a BBS is going to want to plunk down 2 to 3 times or more the cost/value of the bike in repairs? Which is why as noted that several shops either flat out will not work on BBS bikes or require a hefty deposit before they'll start to work on such bikes.

I am sure that experience has taught LBS' that such bikes are not worth their time or effort to repair, and it is not being elitist or snobbish for a bike shop to take such a stand. As how many times do you expect them to be burned by the owners of a BBS bike before they stop working on them?
