Back in 72', had just left the main gate at Lowry AFB in Denver, heading downtown to get in some sort of trouble on my blue Varsity.

At the bottom of the hill, right at the E.Colfax Ave intersection, the light turned yellow and I stood to beat the light.

The rear wheel nut on the right side was loose, the wheel locked up and down I went. I got to my feet and dragged the bike to the sidewalk. There was a Gas Station on the corner, so I went over and asked the mechanic if I could borrow a wrench to free up the wheel so at least I could roll it back to the barrack.

" We don't lend tools..." Standing there in my shredded levi's I mumbled " thanks anyway".

A motorist who saw what happen got a crescent wrench from his trunk for me to use.

Fast forward 30 years...A co-worker gave me 3 old Schwinn Varsitys. One was a ladies, one was a red 24" frame and the other was a 22" frame that was blue.

Guess which one fit.

The wife hates for me to ride it.

On nights like this with rain approaching, that crash comes to the forefront.
