although im a guy and probably have different proportions, im about your height. im not sure if you have previous post, but 58 seems a bit large, as you have found out. i currently ride a 53 giant which has "compact geometry". basically means it has a sloped top tube and is a little more comfortable. per my lbs, they said the length of the top tube is the priority for fit which is why your lbsg wants a smaller stem. i would try out some different sizes, but probably wouldnt go any bigger than 55. all of the resident gurus can chime in here since im a newbie, but this was my understanding of the fit. good luck.
