The two bikes labeled with the builder's name still have the old style decals that predate the ones imported into the US. The champagne bike belonged to Giovanni Bettinelli who lived cross-town from De Rosa's shop in Cusano. In 1968, when this bike was built, he raced on the Faema team alongside Merckx, perhaps one of the ways in which Merckx became better acquainted with Ugo's work?
Perhaps one of the coolest features of the champagne bike is the pantographed stem. This is a 1968 stem with the 7 mm allen key and 12 mm hex bolt and keyed expander. The bars are with the three sets of striations.
