Hub cone compatabilty / finding replacement cones

I was overhauling the hubs on a used Fuji Roubaix that I purchased a few months ago, and noticed quite a bit of metallic particles dispersed in the grease when I cleaned it out. Looking at the cups, cones, and bearings closely with a magnifying lens, I determined that the particles came from the cones, which were moderately pitted. When I first got the bike the hubs were adjusted way too tightly.

My question is, how picky to I need to be with finding a replacement? Will I likely be able to walk into a shop and just get a generic cone that matches the size of the previous one? or do I need to specifically match the cone to the manufacturer?
