To make the same power, you can either apply more force to the cranks to get more torque, or you can increase the angular velocity by pedaling faster. Guess which one is easier on your knees? There is a reason that cyclists train to become comfortable at higher cadences.
Entirely makes sense. I wasn't thinking of knees being the limiting factor in this. It just feels more comfortable for me to pedal slower, not sure why.
