I thought you "didn't have to be Lance Armstrong" to go cross country. I left 3 days ago from San Diego to do the southern tier ACA route. 3 days in, and I have only managed to go 80 miles, and have stopped early, again, today and am staying in Boulevard, CA. The long uphill climbs are very difficult, especially with the 50 pounds of gear I have on the bike. I am also battling some sort of virus, but I don't know how much this has to do with it if any. My legs just get so tired from these long hill climbs. To top it all off, today I had a very harsh headwind during a climb, so strong that even on downhills I couldn't coast because the wind stopped the bike. My brother did the northern tier 3 years ago and he was able to go 50,60,70, sometimes even 100 miles a day. So far I am coming no where near his distances, and I feel at this rate I may go broke before I ever see Florida! Help!
