Getting Back Into Bicycling
I was a bicycling enthusiast when I was in my 30's. By the time I got to my 50's I was fat, sedentary and headed for health problems.
Consistent with my characteristic poor timing, I decided to start getting fit again just as the weather was getting cold and wet during November here in Michigan. So my cardio work has consisted of long hard walks, stationary bike riding and some time in the pool at the Y. March is here and I've gotten one ride in. It was cold out, I was over dressed, my heart rate was too high and my speed was slow, but it was still better than riding that stationary bike.
Most of my riding on the road and that won't change much. There will be some occasional trail rides, but the pavement is home for me.
Some things that have helped me get going down the right path. Younger Next Year by Henry Lodge and Chris Crowley is a book written for men in their 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and beyond.
Endomondo is a smart phone app that turns your phone into a fitness GPS unit. It is useful for bicycling, running, walking and many other activities.
I'm enjoying this forum already and will visit here daily.
