I really do think that's the easiest way. You could get a ton of answers worrying you about this or that from guys that don't really have any first hand experience. Also, there's so many possible combinations of hubs, freewheels, frames, derailleurs and shifters that nobody can ever know it all. Actually, that's one of the things I like about messing with bikes.
